Good Afternoon,
First of all, I want to thank personally, the man who has strongly wanted this mosaic, and wanted me to do it. I have the pleasure to introduce you Mr. Bob Pietrandrea, without Bob, you wouldn't have admired such a beautiful work. Thank you Bob, for giving me this great opportunity in my life.
I made many new mosaics in USA, but most of them, like the one I made in the subway in New York at the Chamber Street Station, most of them are interior and can not be seen, the same thing for all the 2000 years ago roman mosaics I have restored, they belong to private collectors.
So, this mosaic is very important to me, because it is outside and can be seen from many people. To be an artist is something I always wanted to be since child, and being an artist means to me to become a better man. So I have found out that, like all the other persons in the world, I have two souls, two beings within me, at least... there is God and the Devil in me, my mother's blood and my father's; the capacity for happiness and the capacity for suffering, the only difference I have with all the others, is that my duality is more extreme.
All the artists live at times in their rare moments of happiness with such strength and indescribable beauty, the spray of their moment's happiness is flung so high and dazzlingly over the wide sea of suffering, that the light of it, spreading it's radiance touches others too with its excitement.
Thus, I like to think that like a precious, fleeting foam over the sea of suffering, arises my mosaic for your community, in which a single individual lifts himself for an hour so high, above his personal destiny, that his happiness shines like a star, and appears to all who see it, as something eternal and as a happiness of their own.
I hope my work can touch your heart, I hope you will enjoy and admire it for the rest of your life.
Thank you.
