Everything in the life of a middle schooler is changing! Friends, trends, and statuses change by the minute. Change is hard and sometimes painful, but necessary. God loves us too much to leave us the same! He challenges us to learn, discover, and grow into all He created us to be! The Middle School EDGE program works to create a safe space for young people to experience the ONE thing in life that NEVER changes…God’s LOVE!
EDGE is a middle school faith formation program for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. It’s not your average CCD class! The teens are welcomed by volunteers who walk alongside them in their faith journey. They compete in FUN games to kick off the session. Kids melt frozen t-shirts, squirt water at cups, and eat things blindfolded all for a purpose related to a theme. The 10 minute teaching time is short and to the point, giving teens a message and provoking them to THINK! The teens gather in their small groups which are age and gender specific. They read scripture and have discussions in their small groups. Kids are encouraged to ask questions and to be curious about faith. They are open and honest connecting with their leader and the rest of their peers. Catholic topics are explored tapping into various learning styles and allowing middle schoolers to be middle schoolers. The EDGE program is extremely relational. Kids learn and grow together in a community of peers all searching for truth. The session ends with a powerful prayer experience incorporating the senses and connecting to God in a meaningful way. Group leaders challenge their young people to take what they have learned and discussed into their middle school world!
